The Drone College Online PFCO

The Online PfCO is an all-inclusive, CAA-approved drone training course that uses Online training to teach the groundschool subjects that are required by the CAA PFCO drone training syllabus. 

Part 1: Online Groundschool

The Drone College Online PFCO is an easy to use, intuitively structured course that covers the following subjects :

  • Air Law

  • Maps & Air Navigation Charts

  • Airspace Operating Principles

  • Meteorology

  • Aircraft Knowledge

  • Airmanship & Aviation Safety

  • Human Factors

  • Operating Procedures

Plus –

  • Theory Exam Preparation

The Online groundschool course consists of the complete written information you need to understand the subjects and includes stage tests to check your knowledge along the way, so you can see how you are progressing.

 

Learn at your own pace, in your own time – without taking any time off work. All you need to do is login and pick up where you left off, all in the comfort of your own home, office or the beach !

Part 2: Theory Exam and Operations Manual Completion

Once you’ve completed the online groundschool course it will be time to write your own Operations Manual with the support of our tutors and our Ops Manual Template which we will supply you with.

Once that’s complete it will be time to book your written exam and Operational Flight Assessment which take place on the same day. The theory exam is an hour long, consisting of a number of multiple-choice questions. The course will have prepared you well for this so if exams are not your thing don't worry. The online course has tests within it that will help you prepare for this exam.

 

Because we understand people and everyone's different needs, this test can be allocated more time or even carried out verbally for students that have specific needs that require that.

Throughout this whole course you have access to our tutors and so when you feel ready to take your written exam and Flight Assessment, you can contact us on 0800 669 6400 to confirm upcoming dates at your preferred testing location. We have a number of exam and flight assessment locations across the UK but we may well be able to find a suitable location near you.

Part 3: Practical Flight Assessment

The Online PfCO course also includes the cost of your practical flight assessment, which is normally taken on the same day as your written exam.

We will provide you with all that you need to know to prepare for the practical flight assessment in a guidance document and that will help you see what’s needed.

You will need to complete the following before your Flight Test:

  • Theory exam passed.

  • Your Operations Manual reviewed and passed by the training team OR have The Drone College procedures learned before the test so that you can use them instead.

  • We strongly recommend a minimum of 5 hours of logged flight time; this is to ensure you are able to successfully pass your flight exam and you meet the minimum standard required.

  • You will need to have insurance in place for the Flight Test. Flock offer free insirance for flight tests through their App. This is available for the flight test itself or as part of a longer term policy from an number of providers. We can advise you on other potential insurers.

  • Risk Assessment & Site Assessment paperwork for the Flight Assessment site. The forms are provided in your online groundschool files.

  • Book your Flight Test with The Drone College team.

Additionally:

  • Decent weather that's within your Operations Manual limits will help !

  • A drone... If you do not yet have an aircraft, please speak to us about hiring or purchasing a drone for the Flight Test.

  • Safety equipment - you can purchase our Flight Safety Starter Kit, please speak to us to arrange this, or of course use your own if you already have some.

Important

  • Spaces can be limited so please book & confirm your time slot by calling us on 0800 669 6400 as soon as you feel confident to pass your flight test.

  • Remember you can speak to our tutor team at any time who will be more than happy to advise you.

  • Including some verbal questions at the beginning, checking the site survey paperwork and briefing, the test takes about 1.5 hours

  • If you don’t pass the test first time it may be possible to re-take it at no extra cost on the day, if the examiner feels you can achieve the required standard on that same day without needing lots of development flying.

The Drone College PfCO 

The Drone College full PFCO Course is an all-inclusive, CAA-approved drone training course that uses a classroom element of training to teach the groundschool subjects that are required by the CAA PFCO drone training syllabus.

Once a course is booked you will be sent the Course Study Manual that will help you to prepare for the classroom brush up training.

Part 1: 2 - Day Groundschool

The Drone College Standard PFCO Course with a 2 day classroom module at a convenient location for you covers the following subjects that form the CAA approved PfCO training syllabus:

  • Air Law

  • Maps & Air Navigation Charts

  • Airspace Operating Principles

  • Meteorology

  • Aircraft Knowledge

  • Airmanship & Aviation Safety

  • Human Factors

  • Operating Procedures

Plus –

  • Theory Exam Preparation

 

Whether you’re a visual or verbal learner, our PfCO groundschool with our Head of Training, Andy, makes learning easy, quick and enjoyable.

At the end of the classroom based groundschool course there is a written exam on the second day that concludes the groundschool training.The theory exam is 1 hour long consisting of a number of multiple-choice questions. Because we understand people and everyone's different needs, this test can be allocated more time or even carried out verbally for students that have specific needs that require that.

 

Then after the classroom course it will be time to write your own Operations Manual with the support of our tutors and our Ops Manual Template which we will supply you with.
